The NGA has finalized the field for the 2007 Claret Jug Invitational scheduled for Myrtle Beach, SC on February 23-25, 2007. The field includes defending CJI champion Karl Nagy (Simpsonville, SC) and runner–up Ronald Clifton (Richland, MI), along with CJI rookie Chris Lemmon (Richmond, VA).
The handicaps and target number for the players have been determined and are as follows:
Karl Nagy, handicap 7, GIR 8, FW 8, putts 34
Ron Clifton, handicap 17, GIR 5, FW 6, putts 36
Chris Lemmon, handicap 5, GIR 8, FW 8, putts 34
Players earn additional deductions to their score by bettering their target numbers for greens hit, fairways hit and total putts per round. Further bonuses are given for birdies, eagles and sand saves.
This year’s CJI will be a 72 hole event. The scheduled courses include Myrtle Beach National (Southcreek), Legends (Heathland and Parkland) and Prestwick.
In the inaugural 2006 CJI last summer, Nagy dispatched an overwhelmed Clifton in short order 217 (69-74-74) to 241 (81-92-68). Nagy, the favorite again, hopes to make nippy work of both Lemmon and Clifton.
“If there is one thing I am good at it is CJI!” stated Nagy. “This type of tournament sets up perfectly for my strengths of greens and fairways, and making a bushel of putts.”
