Last night Kurt Goetzke played good golf. His league night round of 36 (with a mere 11 putts) was a thing of mastery. Goetzke finally seemed bound to win his $10 standing league bet against old rival Steve Lawler.
Wrong! Goetzke was manhandled by Lawler and lost 4&3.
Lawler bombardment Greystone GC’s difficult back nine in 31. His Tigeresque round included birdies on 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15; all others scores were pars.
Is Goetzke able to compete on the same playing field with the likes of Lawler without handicap strokes? The answer is no. Should Goetzke be proud of his round and use it as a stepping stone to resurrect his crappy golf game in hopes being somewhat competitive in time for the 2007 TPC? Sure he should.
