The car dilemma for next month’s Verizon Heritage (in Hilton Head Island, SC) has come to a happy conclusion, thanks to BMW Manufacturing Co. in Upstate South Carolina.
With General Motors recently withdrawing their traditional car support for the 41st annual PGA TOUR event at the Harbour Town Golf Links, Tournament Director Steve Wilmot had to work fast to land a new car commitment.
South Carolina’s Department of Commerce’s Joe Taylor put Wilmot in touch with Bobby Hitt, BMW’s Public Affairs Department Manager. Hitt, who also chairs the Upstate’s BMW Charity Pro-Am, immediately saw the value in sharing the BMW tournament’s vehicle fleet with the Verizon Heritage.
“We thank BMW for stepping up and solving our courtesy car problem,” said Wilmot. “BMW recognized the importance of the Verizon Heritage to the state of South Carolina and wanted to do whatever it took to build a relationship that would be a win-win for all involved during this internationally televised event.”
Hundreds of Verizon Heritage volunteers have agreed to lend a hand by driving the vehicles from the BMW Factory in Greer to The Sea Pines Resort. The first 50 cars are scheduled for pick up on Wednesday, March 18th.
