Twenty five years ago, it culminated with the Cahonus Cup championship game.
Each Saturday morning, players from throughout Livonia (Michigan) would arrive at the Berean Bible Church for street hockey.
Most players were classmates at Livonia Churchill HS, however some went to neighboring schools.
Everyone just showed up. Word of the games was spread my mouth. Cell phones and the internet were non-existent.
Demand was high for an organized league. Pick-up games were fun, but players wanted teams and teammates.
The Livonia Street Hockey Association formed in January 1987. The first draft occurred at the local Burger King.
Four teams of four player each were created. Players not selected to a team were relegated to a substitution list.
Games were played, statistics were kept and regular season and playoff champions crowned.
Although it only existed for 6 months, the greatness of the LHSA will never be forgotten by its members.
